PIDCOP-CV 2021 LICHENS

R&D of hygienic products with litmus effect based on lichens

Continuing within the field of sustainability, ONDYTEC 2018 has carried out the project entitled R&D OF HYGIENIC PRODUCTS WITH LITMUS EFFECT BASED ON LICHENS, whose main objective was the development of a new bioindicator based on lichen-derived compounds, capable of detecting certain health conditions through changes in sweat pH.
The project focused on the formulation of a litmus-effect finish capable of exhibiting color changes in response to pH variations, with lichen-extracted compounds as the main component. This formulation was applied as a textile finish to be deposited onto nonwoven wipes, intended for the detection of health conditions in humans through sweat analysis. In addition, a reliable and reproducible application process for the textile finishing was successfully defined.
Through this project, ONDYTEC 2018 has developed a sustainable product with significant potential in the medical sector, capable of detecting immediate health conditions such as dehydration, as well as diseases such as diabetes and cystic fibrosis.
This project, entitled R&D OF HYGIENIC PRODUCTS WITH LITMUS EFFECT BASED ON LICHENS, with reference number IMIDTA/2021/5, has been financially supported by the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with a grant of €24,133.50. The proposal was submitted under the SME R&D Projects Programme (PIDI-CV).
